Cowboys Pay Big Money for Mediocrity

If you needed an indication of where the Dallas Cowboys are headed this year, you got it on Tuesday when they decided to pay $8.8 million to keep mediocre outside linebacker Anthony Spencer as a starter.

The Cowboys continue to live in mediocrity because they reward mediocrity.

There is no valid reason to invest so much of your salary cap money to a play who has little impact, has said publicly that he doesn’t give full effort, and that doesn’t make other players better.

Yet, Jerry Jones is so afraid of the unknown that he continues to reward averageness. He did it this season with contract extensions for average safety Gerald Sensabaugh and limited cornerback Orlando Scandrick. That’s three mediocre players on an inept defense being paid big money to be average.

As long as Jerry Jones runs the Cowboys, they will continue to be average, mediocre, uninspiring.

These moves prove that the Cowboys’ owner is a football idiot, and Anthony Spencer is $8.8 million richer because of it.
