Music and Magic - in Mount Vernon

My practically perfect spouse and I, along with about 100 others, enjoyed the magic that is Mount Vernon Music Saturday night as they presented a program called "A Feast for the Ears."

MVM founders Mark and Ute Miller and Carol and Steven Harlos performed Mozart's Quartet K. in E-flat major and Dvorak's Quartet op. 87 in E-flat major.

One of the driving principles of MVM is to bring world class music to rural east Texas, and from the crowd's reaction, they are succeeding.

How lovely to be able to sit in a converted church, surrounded by stained glass windows, with people who truly appreciate classical music, and listen to artists who have given most of their lives to perfect their craft.

And, you don't have to fight city traffic, parking or tip a valet. Just park on a quiet street and stroll to the venue. As you walked into the hall, the smell of freshly baked bread (courtesy of Ute and Georgia Moore). For $10, you could take a loaf home. What a great idea.

On top of the exquisite music and artisan and sour dough bread, MVM provides its patrons with tasty bites at intermission. I mean, seriously, when was the last time the Dallas Symphony offered treats during intermission?

Thank you, Mark, Ute, Carol and Steven, for sharing your incredible gifts with the rest of us. (And, personally, for changing my mind about Dvorak. Until Saturday, his music set my teeth on edge.)

We are truly blessed to have magic like this in our neck of the woods.

Kudos, too, to the many parents who are exposing their children to the classics via Mount Vernon Music ... and to the kids who were so well behaved.
