It's hard to find a songwriter today who hasn't been influenced by the genius of Townes Van Zandt.

Brian Atkinson, a serious student of Americana music and a talented writer, has compiled some great Townes stories in "I'll Be Here In the Morning: The Songwriting Legacy of Townes Van Zandt."

Atkinson talked to over 40 artists who have been influenced by Townes' life, words and music. From Guy Clark and Jerry Jeff Walker, Townes' contemporaries, to younger voices like Hays Carll and Grace Potter, each chapter speaks to the impact Townes' music had on their lives and their craft.

I'm supposed to talk to Atkinson, who writes for The Austin American-Statesman and has contributed to American Songwriter, Texas Music and Lone Star Music magazines, so watch for my interview in an upcoming edition of your News-Telegram.
