Can’t make it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras? Don’t fret. The Civic Center will be transformed into the French Quarter, filled with masks, beads, jazz music, tons of color and lots of fun! Who will win Large and Small Business of the Year, Educator, Lady, Caregiver, Ambassador and Citizen of the Year ... will it be the one that you nominated??? The 83rd Annual Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held Thursday, February 12, in the Exhibit Hall at the Civic Center with dinner beginning at 6:30pm.
Dinner will be catered by Birthwright BarBQue, with a special dinner of roast beef or Cajun turkey, homemade mashed potatoes, green bean bundles, fresh spinach and strawberry salad and a very special Mardi Gras desert! Speaking of the Chamber banquet, the Pilot club is still accepting nominations for Caregiver of the Year to be presented at the banquet. If you would like to nominate someone, make sure that the person performs voluntary caregiver service and they either live in Hopkins County or provide service in Hopkins County. Mail your nomination to 345 Highland Drive, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482. Nominations must be received by January 29th.
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the Hopkins County Extension Office on Jan. 28
Wednesday, Jan. 28, will be the grand opening for the Hopkins County Extension Office, which is located in the old Chamber building at 1200 West Houston Street. The Open House will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the RIBBON CUTting at 4:00pm. Please join us in celebrating the opening of their new location!

High School Leadership Class Education Day: February 4th
The High School Leadership Class will spend the day of February 4th getting an education on Education. The seniors will start the morning off with an introduction to the courses offered at Paris Junior College from Linda Bennett, and then will set out for Texas A&M University — Commerce. There, the students will spend the day learning how to write competitive application letters, how to apply for financial aid, what to expect from college life, what college cafeteria food tastes like and what a difference dorm life is from home!

Boot Scootin’ for Kids
Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center will be presenting “Boot Scootin’ for Kids” on Saturday, February 7th, at the Civic Center. Dinner will be served from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the entertainment will begin at 7:30! This will be a great opportunity to kick up your heels for a good cause. National Day of the American Cowboy Crockpot Chili Contest — January 30th
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Posse and KSST radio present the National Day of the American Cowboy Crockpot Chili Contest on Friday, January 30th, at 6:30pm. Entry fee is only $10 with the grand prize being $250! If you don’t want to cook, then go out and try the food ... tickets are only $5!
