I do not know what the weather holds for us, but I see clouds. Can you believe it? I checked weather.com and saw rain in the forecast for the next eight days. Wahoo!

I have been very negligent because I forgot to let everyone know about a special lady's birthday. Last Sunday there was a birthday celebration for Christine Street. Christine is a former Brashearite. Happy 90th birthday to Christine.

I had a call from Jamie Fite this week, and she wanted to pass on an idea that Sulphur Bluff Methodist Church had adopted. They were looking for something for the women of their church, so they have bingo for ladies only on the second Thursday of the month. She said they started out with 17 by word of mouth, and the last time they had up to 50 ladies. Yeah! She wanted to see if Brashear Baptist Church would like to try this for ladies of our community. Thank you, Jamie, for calling.

Well, if you remember, I had several questions about fires last week. Beth Wisenbaker, our county commissioner, is researching all of this, and I am waiting to hear from her. I had heard to call the county fire department and leave a message when reporting a fire, but I want to know how we can find out how close the fire is to our location. Thanks, Beth, for following up on this.

We hope that the Stewart family has a wonderful family reunion this weekend.

Has anyone else noticed that the pecan trees are loaded with pecans and they are the only trees that are not losing their leaves? Maybe we’ll have a good crop of pecans this year after not many last year.

I just want to send out a warning to everyone regarding the dry weather. We are experiencing severe foundation problems. We live on a slab and there are cracks appearing everywhere. We have had some work done but I can only hope that this dry spell is almost over.

I noticed that Marie and Ron Bramlett had some tree loss. I sincerely hope that none of those trees fell on your home. Your place looks so different. I guess you lost some of your shade.

With the burn ban on, remember that you can take your trash to the Precinct 1 Barn on State Highway 19.

Remember that the Fall Festival is going on this weekend. This is one of the advantages of small town living. Congratulations to the Frazier brothers on being voted Hopkins County Idols. They got first and second place. They are so talented.

Another week has gone, and I sincerely hope everyone is safe after the fires of last week. I would like you to take care of those around you. Our seniors need help with the heat and heavy air that makes it hard to breathe.

I want to remind you to call me at 903-612-8806; e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or come on by for a visit on CR 1119 (the house with a bulldozer). We so enjoy visits from everyone. Take care.
