Tommy and Patti Wiebold traveled to Kaufman to the home of Jason and Amanda Mangrum for their daughter Abby Mangrum's 4th birthday party on Saturday. They had a barbecue dinner, prepared by Jason, consisting of brisket, pork loin, baked beans, potato salad and all the fixings. Patti comments, “Although it was a hot one on Saturday, everyone enjoyed themselves, and Miss Abby enjoyed being the center of attention and getting a lot of presents.” Tommy and Patti returned home on Saturday evening, tired from a day spent outside in the sun, although it was a good time and nice to visit with many of their old friends, whom they have not seen since moving into their new home in Tira.
Morgan, Kenden, Jaidyn Joslin and Chip and I went to Broken Bow, Okla., on Saturday afternoon for an “Anchor's Aweigh!” party for Alex Vaughn. Alex, son of Johnny and Cindy Vaughn and grandson of Jim and Sandra Vaughn, has enlisted with the Navy and will be leaving later this month. Tim and Lori Vaughn of North Hopkins and Linda Ellen Vaughn of Dallas were there, too, along with many of Alex’s friends and family. After the party Chip, Linda, the kids and I went swimming in the lake at Beaver's Bend.
Teachers and other staff return to work at North Hopkins School on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and students start classes on Monday, Aug. 22.
I know that the Tira volunteer firefighters have been responding to some calls during this hot, dry spell, but I don’t have an official report from the group.
I guess most everyone in Tira must be staying home under the air conditioner. I didn’t get much news this week. I hope to have more next time.
