Martha Payton reports, “The Tira Methodist Church will conduct a Maundy or Holy Thursday Worship Service at 6 p.m. Sulphur Bluff Methodist Church will also be taking part. We invite the communities to come join us on Thursday evening.”

Donna Durst's uncle, Elmo Cunningham, died Saturday, April 9. He was Donna's only uncle. She says, “We all called him ‘Fat.’” He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, worked as a Dallas policeman for 22 years, and then worked as director of security for Baylor Hospital in Dallas for 12 years. Donna reports, “Fat and my Aunt ‘Tiny’ moved to Athens after his retirement. Fat was one of the arresting officers when Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested. We enjoyed hearing all his stories about the war and about Oswald and Jack Ruby. We will really miss him.” The Durst family went to Athens on Tuesday for the visitation, and then went back on Wednesday for the funeral. We extend our sympathy to this family.

Sherry Smiddy is having a yard sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 13 miles north of Sulphur Springs on State Highway 19, on the left just past the FM 1536 intersection.

Rosemary Horn brought lunch and visited with her sister, Helen Weir, last Wednesday. Janie and Von Prahl were there on Sunday. Posey Baptist Church hosted a softball tournament on Saturday to raise money for church camp. Nancy Potts comments, “We had a lot of fun.”

We want to express our sympathy to the family of Barbara Ann (Minty) Cunningham. She passed away on Saturday, and her funeral service was held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home on Tuesday.

Mary Rawson and I went to Plano on Saturday to visit Pete and Dorreice (Horn) Shuptrine. We were treated to Dorreice's delicious homemade apricot fried pies and cookies when we arrived. After visiting for a few hours in their lovely home, we went for a leisurely late lunch at the Black-Eyed Pea, and then went back to the house and looked at Pete's beautiful flower and vegetable gardens before returning home. We had a great time!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior!
