Republicans in the U.S. Senate are pushing new rules that would allow states to opt out of Obamacare, yet another battle in the war against the new health care law. And this war may not end until the U.S. Supreme Court finally gets involved.

According to most polls, the American people were opposed to the 2,700-page law when Congress first rushed approval last year. It doesn't seem many opinions have changed. Despite U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson's ruling in January that the law is unconstitutional, the Obama administration keeps pushing forward, including the mandate that everyone must either buy insurance or pay a tax to the government.

Luckily, Republicans keep fighting for changes - if not outright appeal.

The opt-out bill would permit states to gorge the individual mandate, as well as another mandate that businesses provide government-approved health insurance, a mandate expanding Medicaid programs and different mandates defining qualified health plans and establishing government regulation over them.

Simply put, any mandate that forces a citizen to purchase health insurance flies directly in the face of the U.S. Constitution. We can't see anyway around that fact. And forcing businesses to provide "government-approved" health insurance to employees would be a killer. Perhaps that is why so many businesses with ties to the Obama administration have already received "opt-out" status from the government.

And how can we even consider expanding Medicaid when the program is already adding billions to the federal deficit? It simply makes no sense.

Obamacare is bad for this country. It puts too much power into the hands of the federal government. If the government can force us to buy health insurance, then why couldn't it force us to buy GM vehicles, since that company is being subsidized with federal monies?

Until the Supreme Court gets involved, we can only hope that Republicans keep up the fight to defeat and repeal Obamacare. As a free country, we simply cannot afford it.
