This is a mixed bag of topics, so let's just call this scattershooting in honor of Blackie Sherrod

The WOWBOYS, I mean Cowboys played like they should and even with Jon Kitna at QB they were good enough to win 33-20 at the New York Giants.
Will wonders never cease?
I am not going to jump on the Jason Garrett-band wagon just yet. Yes, I think he did a good job. But I also remember he is the same guy who had been calling plays as the team went 1-7. Remember that!
Well, I am of the opinion that maybe the Cowboys won just because they needed to be shaken up. They did not win for Garrett, but in spite of him. Garrett was just the choice to run the show, for now. The Princeton lad is sharp indeed, but is he a leader of men. Time with tell.
I must admit that Wade sure disappointed me. I still think Wade is a good defensive coach. He's just short of guts, especially when you remember that Bum Phillips is his dad.
Will the Cowboys keep Garrett for next year. Or will they make a big splash and throw cash to hire Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher.
I guess that is up to the powers at be. Or Jerry the GM.
Therein, lies the biggest problem of them all.

SO LONG TREY - Trey Newton, son of former Dallas Cowboy lineman Nate Newton, is retiring from football. He's been a running back at the University of Texas and shown flashes of brilliance at times. But he also has battled concussions. So he decided to give up football and just get a degree and go on with his life.
Mack Brown, showing his class as always, said that Newton had earned the scholarship . So Trey can get on with a long and productive life and not worry about his brains being damaged by hard hits on the gridiron.
I applaud the young man for the decision, as difficult as it would be. And I applaud UT for doing the right thing by him.

RANGER AWARDS - Neftali Feliz got the AL Rookie of the Year. He had 40 saves, a rookie record and was great for the Rangers and a big reason for their success. Word is he might be converted to a starter, wait and see. I like him where he is for now, heck, he is just 22-years old.
I am hoping that Feliz is just the first of many Rangers to get awards. Josh Hamilton should get MVP of the AL and Ron Washington could be chosen for the AL Manager of the Year.

DIEHARD FANS -- I must give fans from Cooper a holler out from the sidelines. Cooper and Harleton played in a game Friday in Mount Pleasant which featured rain, a lightning delay and then howling wind. Cooper fans stayed throughout as their team won 47-20.
Harleton fans were not as dedicated. Even their band left early in the contest. The Cooper band stayed and put on a fine show at the half.
