There’s something good here . . .
We hear enough bad news on TV. This column is meant to spotlight the positive things in our lives. Recognize the good around you. Share a smile. Speak a kind word. It might be your turn to need encouragement one day.

There’s something good here . . .
Just look at the photos inside  today’s edition. Hopkins County students are doing good things, from earning recognition from their teachers to cleaning the final resting places of our heroes, to honoring veterans during the school day. Give these kids a pat on the back.

There’s something good here . . .
SSISD administration believes in the arts. Look at the success of our fine arts students. The band represents us well every time they take the field. The Blue Blazes are about to celebrate their golden anniversary. Orchestra students shine at competition. Art students are excited about their projects. Choir kids rise to the top of the heap. And Dawn Doyle’s theater kids are about to launch their production of “Oklahoma!” Bravo for the future of the arts. Bravo for the kids, their teachers and their parents.

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are in the playoffs for the fourth straight year. No lack of integrity in the front office here.

There’s something good here . . .
The Northeast Texas Choral Society has been rehearsing since September for their annual Christmas show. Think about it. More than 100 people give up their Monday evenings for us. Next time you see one of their singers, thank them for their hard work.

There’s something good here . . .
The Symphony League is about to host their annual auction. These are the people who bring us the fabulous Independence Day celebration every summer. Support them. It’s a good thing.

There’s something good here . . .
This community is blessed to have the wisdom of citizens who have lived long enough to know what’s important and what’s worth leaving alone.

There’s something good here . . .
If you’re bored and feeling just a little sorry for yourself, read the Community Calendar and find the  many available volunteer opportunities. Get busy doing something for someone else. It’s a sure fire cure for the blues.

There’s something good here . . .
Despite some saber rattling, and a few disparaging ads, we survived the last election cycle intact. Give thanks to our founding fathers for creating a long-lasting set of rules. Most other countries on this planet haven’t been so lucky.
