Get your lawn chairs out Saturday and head to Buford Park for the Stew Contest!

Don’t miss the 41st Annual World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest this Saturday, Sept. 18, at Buford Park!

Come out early and enjoy the cool morning as the 118 stew cooks prepare their yummy Hopkins County Stew over open wood fires! Bring your chairs and enjoy all-you-can-eat stew for just $5. Stew will be served at approximately 10:45 a.m., and the winners will be announced around noon.

Get your stew tickets NOW!

If you don’t like to wait in line, then you need to stop by Alliance Bank, City National Bank, Guaranty Bond Bank, Pilgrim Bank and Texas Heritage National Bank Friday and pick up your tickets to the World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest. The price is still just $5 for all-you-can-eat stew, which includes cheese and crackers! After you get your tickets, all you have to do on the 18th is go straight to one of the three service tents.

I would like to thank the sponsors that are sponsoring the stew contest: Alliance Bank, City National Bank, Guaranty Bond Bank, Orthodontics at Summit Dental, A & S Air Conditioning, Audley Moore Construction, Lone Star Dodge, Luminant, Allstate Insurance-Patty Brown, AgriLand Farm Credit, A.K. Gillis, Richard Drake Construction, Ocean Spray, NETBIO, Judge Cletis Millsap, Town & Country Cleaners, Chris Brown, Powers & Blount, ReMax, Southwest Dairy Museum ABC Autoplex, Jordan Health Services, Vista Care and Winzen Film.

Many others have donated items for the stew contest. They include: Farmers Electric Coop, Chicken Express, Southwest Dairy Museum, Alliance Bank, City National Bank, First United Methodist Church, Plain & Fancy Sandwich Shoppe, Morningstar Foods, Chili’s, GSC Enterprises, Juan Pablos, Robert Mercer, Coca Cola, Verizon, The Lodge, Latson’s, Walgreens, Echo Publishing, Farm Country, Ag Power, Shawn Massey, Gary Spraggins, Heritage Park, and the city of Sulphur Springs.

Stew contest T-shirts to be sold Saturday

We had over 600 votes on the designs for a T-shirt commemorating the 41st Annual World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest. Steve Littlefield, the winner in the Super Stew and Chicken divisions at the 2009 cookoff, had the winning design. His T-shirt design has been modified, with his approval, to be on a black T-shirt in order for all of the beautiful colors to really pop. We will be selling the T-shirts for $10 at the stew contest this Saturday.
