The 9th Annual Texas State Homemade Ice Cream Freeze-Off is set for 4 p.m. on June 12th on the grounds of the Civic Center!
If you have never entered a freezer of ice cream, here is your chance! It is so simple — all you have to do is fill out an entry form and bring your freezer of ice cream to the Civic Center grounds on the 12th and have it ready to turn in to the judges by 4 p.m. There is no entry fee for this event, and you could win CASH and a coveted Ice Cream Freezer Trophy! All forms received before June 7th will be entered in a drawing for several nice prizes!

Memorial Day Celebration on the steps of the Courthouse set for Friday at 10 a.m.
Memorial Day on the Square, hosted by Hopkins County Military Coalition, begins at 10 a.m. Friday on the Hopkins County Courthouse steps. The Sulphur Springs Middle School Band will perform patriotic songs, proclamations will be read, and Early Childhood Learning Center classes will be in attendance.
SSISD’s Greg Owens offers warning for businesses
Business owners are being cautioned by Sulphur Springs ISD Athletic Director Greg Owens to be aware of companies soliciting advertising for SSISD organizations. SSISD does not receive any of these funds. Owens said SSISD personnel will contact you personally for your support. If you have any questions about whom you are dealing with, please don’t hesitate to call the school. The administration building can be reached by calling 903-885-2153. The number for Sulphur Springs High School is 903-885-2158.
Free Marriage Education Class offered by Twogether in Texas and AgriLife Extension
If you are married, engaged, or seriously dating someone and would like to get an education on how to communicate better, resolve conflicts, manage money and set goals, then you need to call Extension Agent Johanna Hicks at 903-885-3443 and sign up for the Free Marriage Education Class on Saturday, June 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Extension Office, 1200 B Houston Street. All engaged couples will receive a certificate for a $60 waiver upon applying for a marriage license!
Attention Horse Lovers: AQHA show set for June 11-13 at the Civic Centern
The Northeast Texas Horsemen’s Association is a group of horse owners, breeders and trainers that recognized the need for an organization that could bring together the talents, interests and facilities available in the Northeast Texas area for the benefit of all horse enthusiasts.
It is an organization open to all breeds and disciplines and committed to promoting all types of equine events in an affordable, family friendly atmosphere. The membership represents a wide and diverse mix of horse enthusiasts, from backyard horsemen to full-time professionals with World Championship trophies.
The organization hosts horse shows throughout the year at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. The next American Quarter Horse Association show will be Friday, June 11, through Sunday, June 13, and they are expecting a great turnout with riders from all over Texas and Oklahoma. If you have never experienced the excitement of one of the shows, please stop by and check it out.
