Anyone going to Jambo 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 15
Are any Boy Scouts or Venture Crews from around the Sulphur Springs area going to the 2013 National Scout Jamboree in W. Virginia this July ?

No Jambo for my new Boy Scout but I, as a leader, am looking forward to spending 2 full weekends at Camp Dierks for Woodbadge in a few weeks!

In 4 years you can go together...
I've never met a boy who went to Jamboree that didn't get his Eagle...

You'll really like Wood Badge... we have so much fun.

Well, I did my first weekend of WB this past weekend! So. Much. Fun! I'm having trouble writing my ticket, though. I'm waiting for advice from my PG. I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Don't base the outcome of a ticket item on something where other people have to do something...
Example:

WRONG:
I will make sure all the boys in out troop get the Fishing Merit Badge.

BETTER:
I will teach a Fishing Merit Badge class for our Troop.

Try check with the District Training Chairman... They always need people to help with training. Helping teach a number of events is a good ticket item.

I started the first news letter for out troop... it's now evolved into a full website. LOL

For personal/family.... I said I would give my wife one night a week to do what ever she wanted to do. Go to the movie she liked, eat where she wanted to go.... It didn't take but a few months to where it was once or twice a month that I had to worry about. She still holds me to it long after I got my beads. But now days it is just leave her alone and let her watch what ever TV show she likes. LOL

One of my ideas, the one I sent to my PG for advice, is a fireside like chat with an Eagle Scout to give the pack a better understanding of why they are doing the acheivements they are doing and how it prepares them for Boy Scouts. My ultimate goal is to give the Scouts (and their parents) something to look forward to in Boy Scouts. I don't know...it's just harder than I thought it would be.

My other idea is a pack wide food drive to help the Food Bank. The ultimate goal for that is obviously to get the boys to understand that there are people out there that can't afford to buy their own food and need the help of organizations to help provide food. This would benefit both the boys and the food bank.

My pack training coordinator is also at WB and the training is what she's doing. I don't want to piggy back off her idea.

On your fire side chat... is your audience the parents or the cub scouts.?
Sounds good... that's why we have a Den Chief. The Cubs will listen to another boy a lot more than an adult. LOL If your pack doesn't have Den Chiefs, your ticket might have something to do with your fireside chat showing the value of Den Chiefs, helping organize and train some Scouts to become Den Chiefs. Bringing in an Eagle or even some OA member boys to talk about Scouting to the Cubs and Adults is a great idea.

I'm the District Camping chair, so I visit the Troops, Crews, and Packs to promote summer camp, day camp, high adventure, and jamboree.
All I do is get 2 or 3 OA members with their white sash, and a feather headdress to talk about how much fun camp is. No canned speech... just, " WOW, are we having fun or what?" Boys will listen to other boys... all you want to do is get them excited. LOL I don't say a word...

Yes, helping plan and organize a food drive is also a good idea...
Organizing it into an annual event might be an idea to think about too.
Who sponsors your Pack... you might even include them in the idea.

My jamboree staff assignment... I'll be teaching Fly Fishing.

Just got a email... seems they need Photographers a lot more than Fly Fishing Instructors.

Photographers get to go all over the Jamboree site rather than just working in one area. With digital cameras we'll need computers, which means access to electricity (re-charge things) And usually the "press" is housed in an air conditioned location.

This new assignment could turn out OK!

I'm thinking your new assignment is a little "cushy"...lol. I'm sure it'll be fun regardless of your assignment.

I got all my ticket written and started. I'm doing:

1) The Fireside Chat with the target audience being both parents and boys.
2) Food Drive which will be once a month for 3 months.
3) Attend University of Training
4) Join Ladies Lunch Bunch at Church and attend 1/2 of the lunches over a 6 month period.
5) Pick up trash at our charter organization.

Wow, Stanley, both jobs are right in your "line of work". How super for you and those that you will teach. Have fun.
