It is so sad. I can't imagine the horror of that moment.
I've been watching the replay tonight. They just interviewed a rider who was there yesterday when a pellet/BB gun went off yesterday. Hit one of the riders in the thigh.
The idiots who pull stunts like this should have to lie down on the road and have the peleton ride straight over them - and I'm the least violent person I know.
These idiots really make life dangerous for the cyclists. Most of the racers are really thin ... and while they're strong and have cat feet, they are helpless if someone runs out in front of them ... and they're sitting ducks for a shooter.
On the Alpe d' Huez time trial in 2004 (I think), Lance said he was spit on all the way up. Just made him ride faster and win the day.
Watched Hincapie interview. Man, he was HOT that the Garmin-Slipstream guys pushed the peleton so that he couldn't wear yellow. It really was probably his last shot at a mellow johnny (leader's jersey). He's such a great guy and has done so much for the sport, especially here in America. Behind Lance, he's one of the most beloved guys in the sport. Have met him and found him to be as nice in person as he is on TV.
There was no reason for GS to do that. Must be some really bad blood between Columbia (George's team) and Garmin. There's a back story there, I'm sure.
