Had another opportunity to "enjoy" the stop signs around the square Friday during noon traffic. Has anyone else noticed the street bricks have shifted, twisted, and raised in a couple of spots? Suddenly feels like you're driving across one of those old metal grate bridges.

If I remember correctly, that's the reason they took the bricks up in the first place...

I noticed the other day that they already had to re-do one section LOL .... it looks great but there may be some maintenance issues!!

The stop signs don't bother me. Just takes a little longer to get through the maze!

The stop signs don't bother me. I just wish everyone would pay attention to them and not "run" them as some have been doing. I have had two "almosts" because someone was not paying attention or had gotten tired of stopping at all the signs.

The stop sign at Gilmer and Main/College seems to be the worst one to me. People heading west that are stopped on College are hard to see because the 4-way isn't "square". (Don't know how else to say that!!) College St. doesn't line up East/West with Main, so the people stopped northbound on Gilmer are pretty far south of College. I've seen several 'almosts'. That's one intersection to pay close attention when stopping there, going ANY direction!

You certainly have to pay attention now. It's a different driving world around downtown these days.

The stop signs aggravate the heck out of me! So many people have forgotten, (or never learned) the proper order of yield at a 4 way stop! Some just sit there like they are totally lost, while others coast or roll through the signs, and even more gas on it and go thru like they are the only ones on the road! Then you throw in pedestrians that think everyone should yield to them as they jay walk across Main, Davis, and areas on the square. Mr. Maxwell what were you thinking when you thought all this up?

i totally agree, barely any people stop, it its like once people in front of them go they feel they can go too. i usually have patience but one day someone almost hit the back of my car where my children were. i almost jump out of the car and yell at the person but what would my children think so i felt it better to just go straight home.

I am really surprised that all of you don't know that when a stop sign has that white reflective border around the outside of the sign, stopping is optional!

Thanks JB, had to retire the speeding dog...hit the brakes hard the other day and the dog got a concussion. He now refuses to go out wearing that helmet.
