Verizon/AT&T Fiber Optic Cable Issues 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: -5
Two breaks in the line in the last few months has businesses in Sulphur Springs wondering what it is going to take to restore reliable service to our city. Mondays break, apparently by a contractor outside of Greenville, follows the break on Hwy 67 a few months ago. The issue is: Why do we not have a secondary feed to the city so that we are not crippled at financial institutions, manufacturing facilities, restaurants, and retail businesses? C'mon Verizon. Let's talk about it. This is not acceptable to any of us in today's world of technology.

I agree. It was a mess. No reason there can't be a back-up plan.

I, personally, enjoyed the quiet. I hate that it threw the banks and retailers off but it was nice that my phones didn't ring once yesterday.

It is pretty dang sad that this stuff keeps happening. And ever since Verizon bought out Alltel, the service has been crappy.

Come on people, you don't have a life without technology? I wish they would do something to make cell phones not work. That has really given people an excuse to be rude.

Did any of you guys watch 60 minutes Sunday? Don't be surprised when the grid is completely shut down. It happened in Brazil. Plus they were saying someone is using technology to withdraw $10 MILLION dollars a day from certain banks in the US. Also, they are getting in to our defense computers.

I really don't think congress is addressing the real issues of our country.

You make a good point in regards to technology and the law. It is obvious that the law is behind the progression of technology. People are finding more ways to use the internet to commit crimes since the internet is "not policed" like it should be.

Kinda scary

Appreciate the NT coverage of the power outage and Stan McKee's representation of Oncor. Why no coverage of the cable issues that had much more material impact on our community? We are still waiting for responses from Verizon as to how the chances of this happening again can be minimized.
