I just wandered in here. Did not realize that this section is over a year old. But till a couple of weeks ago did not consider exercising. At 48 I can out work every young man that has come through the shop. So I must be in pretty good shape...right?
Not what the Doctor said. I had no symptoms of anything wrong with the exception run out of gas quick if I got to running after the grandkids or something like swinging a sledgehammer. Just my age I thought.
There was that little voice to get a physical, started out as a quiet little voice about two years ago. Kept getting louder and louder to the point I could no longer ignore it anymore.
All my numbers were off. Blood sugar was 215 and BP was 175/85. Bad Cholesterol high, good Cholesterol low. Not good.
I have lost 20 pounds in a month, and watch my diet and taking the minimum of my medication. This morning Sugar was 111 and BP was 110/65. Mostly diet some exercise. I have ordered an Elliptical should be here any day now. That may help me get to the point I do not need the medication at all. That is my goal.
I have been educating myself, on the American Diabetes website and Web MD has a lot of good information. Also subscribed to their e-mail alerts.
I noticed the main topic here is weight loss. A diabetic diet will make anyone lose weight. It is also considered a "Anti aging" diet by one doctor I was reading about.
Diabetes falls under "Fitness" due to the easiest way to control blood sugar and blood pressure is to exercise.
Maybe a few of us can get together and share notes and inspiration.
And just maybe help others.
I found out that while I am not in danger now, if I had not payed attention to the voice to get a physical, I had less than a year at the rate I was going and would have likely gone to the doctor in an ambulance with either a heart attack or stroke. Then I really would have had to change life and possibly loss of quality life completely.
So for me the journey begins.
