I asked a Black Man a while back how Affirmative Action has really helped him. This come from him making the comment to me that I had it made simply because I was white. This took place while I still living in California. It was while I was looking for a job, resume in hand, application filled out. And the Manager or Owner is telling me that I was the best qualified person come through the door in awhile, and how much he would love to give me a job....but he has to hire a non white to fill a quota.
So as I see it, nothing to do with experience, nothing to do with training, the only qualification needed was other than white skin color.
So I ask how does it help any given race to lower the standards of education, so students qualify for entrance to college. Lower the Job qualification standard, so that workers qualify for employment. Lower the Standard of our Society so that they qualify in life.
What happened to being the best to get a job? I suppose it goes back to raising our children that turn to adults "Do not worry boys and girls, there are no losers or winners" But my exact point is, if I am to truly succeed in life, I need to be the best I can be.
So when a society lowers a standard so a particular race can barely qualify. How have you helped him or her? A few generations of dumbing down the standard so a group qualifies, you now have a group dependent on the SYSTEM.
I asked the man that brought this conversation to me that If "The Man" is holding him down, why does he think allowing him and his children to accept a lower standard for acceptance into school and a job, was not "enslaving him to the system" But rather a strong education and learning to compete vigorously for any given job would make him stronger and more free. This man did not know what to say.
I did not say this to be mean, but to simply state the truth. I did say I was opposed to preferential hiring to anyone and very against Racism in either direction.
I once heard that a term like n****r will have a place in this world again, likely to be a different word. But rather this term referring to skin color, it will be class and it will be all colors of people. Every person that follows the trend of excellence down will be classed in this group.
Those that somehow escape this trend will be the other side.
What it comes down to, if you do not have a skill and the best at what you do, at some point you will have to accept what scraps society hands you.
So do we really want easier standards? Would not harder standards force our children to work harder, and we need to stop the ideology of " There are no Losers Boys and Girls" because in truth and life, there are the winners and losers.
PS: Judge Sotomayor is an Affirmative Action Judge, going to sit on the highest court in this Nation. She did not get there because she was the best!
