"To pay for the expansion of coverage, the bill cuts Medicare's projected spending by more than $400 billion over a decade."

"Democrats lined up a range of outside groups behind their legislation, none more important than the AARP, whose support promises political cover against the cuts to Medicare in next year's congressional elections."

Hawaii is Exempt!
Hawaii is Exempt!
Na Na Na, Na, Na Na.

Because Every employer must provide medical insurance for all their employees.

They told us years ago if we would vote for No Fault Car Insurance....
The cost of car insurance would go down....
And everyone would have car insurance...
Because the law required everyone to have car insurance.
(each CAR must have liability insurance... As a driver, I don't need insurance...
but each and every car I may own must.)
Today, Hawaii's car insurance is one of the most expensive in the nation
And 30% of all cars on the road do not have insurance.

Can't wait to see how this health insurance thing is going to work out.

After months of acrimonious partisanship, Democrats closed ranks on a 220-215 vote that included 39 defections, mostly from the party's conservative ranks. But the bill attracted a surprise Republican convert: Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao of Louisiana, who represents the Democratic-leaning district of New Orleans and had been the target of a last-minute White House lobbying campaign. GOP House leaders had predicted their members would unanimously oppose the bill.

The House legislation would for the first time require every individual to obtain insurance

But that doesn't mean that every citizen in Hawaii has medical insurance, so, IMO, it's not a Na Na Na, Na, Na Na.

I wouldn't label myself as a democrat, I'm on the line with democrat tendencies, but I'm really not sure where I stand on this. I don't believe that we should have a socialized form a healthcare but I also don't think it's fair that insurance companies must report a profit every year. In order for them to report a profit, the cost of insurance is so high that a single income family, and even dual income families, can't afford to buy into a health insurance plan. I've known people that the only way they could afford to buy into a private health plan was to choose a plan that had a $5000 deductible so that they could get a lower premium. It's not even worth it because you end up paying for everything O.O.P. anyway!

I think that healthcare, in and of itself, has already gone down the drain anyway. I am uninsured and in September I had to go to the E.R. because I thought I broke my arm. I sat in our beautiful new emergency room for 3 hours and saw the doctor 2 times for a total of 5 minutes. I wasn't even checked on by the nurse. If I needed something, which eventually I did, I had to stand at the door and wait for someone to pass. I received the hospital bill and HCMH wants almost $400. When I got the bill for the doctor I just about fell out of my chair! The bill was just over $500! I would LOVE to make $500 for 5 minutes work but in order for me to even get close to that I would have to do something illegal and something pretty darn degrading. Oh, and the doctor was RUDE, too. The cheapest bill I got out of the whole ordeal was the bill from the radiologist. That bill was only $41, a much easier pill to swallow.

Sometimes I think I'm lucky I don't have insurance. It worries me sometimes, too, because what if I have something more serious than possibly a broken bone. I really don't know what I'd do if I got really sick and was hospitalized for an extended period of time. I know HCMH charges $100/day for just a room. Isn't staying at one of the local hotels cheaper than that?

I'm curious to see what happens when the bill goes to the Senate. I heard that it could be next year before there's even a vote on it. It's worth watching, that's for sure.

Dang!!!! $41 for the radiologist. That is CHEAP!!! I went to the radiologist and it cost me a little over $600 for the local radiologist, then they didn't have anyone qualified to read it and sent it to a radiologist in Paris, that bill was over $300. So my ordeal, plus the Dr's visit, which is $55 at the clinic, cost me right at $1000. I don't have insurance either, if I did, it still would have cost the same, because of the deductibles being so high.

I still don't want the reform they are pushing through now. If you don't have insurance you are going to be fined through the IRS at a rate of %2.5 annual gross income. Failure to comply with the law, depending on "level of non-compliance", could result in fines up to $250,000 and up to 5 years in prison. Eventually you WILL be FORCED into the public option, which really isn't an option. Then they get to decide what they are going to cover and not cover, meds too. To me, it's not much different than what insurance companies currently do.

Re:HOUSE PASSES PELOSI'S H.C. BILL!!!!!!!!! 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 9
“Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]

When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.

“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates."

Re:HOUSE PASSES PELOSI'S H.C. BILL!!!!!!!!! 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 5
There are 111 bureaucracies created by this bill, and the cost is $100,000,000,000 annually with interest. And since it is “Deficit Neutral” just how much tax am I going to have to pay. I pay for my own insurance. I have a $10,000 deductible so I can afford the premiums. We just got a notice that Unicare is not renewing my policy. Change we can believe in …

Just curious, are you or is someone else sick a lot? If not, with a $10,000 deductible you're better off without private insurance. Like I said in my previous post, with a deductible that high you're paying out of pocket on everything. It would take a major surgery or a very extended hospital stay to even meet your deductible. I don't even think my husband, who has diabetes and is on medication for the rest of his life, will spend $10,000 a year on healthcare. If I was the one with your insurance, I would welcome Unicare to not renew my policy.

Let's see... the last visit to the ER cost me just a little over $500.
That being the 20% that I pay and the insurance company paid the other 80%.

What I find funny is..... if a person doesn't have the money to buy insurance....
where are they going to get the money to pay the fine for not having insurance?
Da!

You're right Stan, and if you can't do either how will an ex-con pay the fine after he gets out of jail? Maybe they can confiscate your stuff and auction it too, serf.

It must be hard to for them (the "Pelosians" & "Obamians") to realize, from their lofty perches, that there are actually citizens of this country who do not make much more than $15k per year. And...there are more every day.
