When were leaf blowers invented? 4 Months ago Karma: 5
Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm reading a mystery (fiction) about a kidnapping that happened in 1967. A girl was taken from her back yard while the mother was distracted by a phone call. There wasn't anything happening in the neighborhood, save for the gardener using a leaf blower in the next door neighbors' yard?

I had to mow our yard and keep it up when I was in school and I don't remember there being such a thing as a leaf blower.

Help.

I have no idea when they were invented. We didn't have them when I was mowing our yard as a kid. I'm sure glad to have one now. It cut 3 hard days of raking down to about 5 hour. Best 30 bucks I,ve spent.

Back in the day they did have leaf blowers that looked more like powered push mowers, not the type you are more familiar with seeing today.

I can't find an accurate year of invention but what few articles I've seen by googling "history leaf blowers" say that they weren't introduced into the U.S.A. until the 1970's. I don't trust what Wikipedia says, but it says that it was invented in the late 1950's. So who really knows. I guess it's one of those technological mysteries.

All I remember was it took 2 1/2 hours to mow our yard with a riding lawn mower. And that wasn't every week... it was when Dad said it needed mowing. (usually every 5 days or so.) The good news is.... we just let her lay where she fell. No Raking, Same with leaves. Makes good ground cover for a healthy yard.

A little known fact is that the leaf blower, as it is constructed today, was illegally immigrated to the USA in 1977. It was annoying and loud and woke people up in the morning, but nobody knew it was an illegal immigrant. had they known, they could have sent it back home. Instead, the leaf blower was given amnesty by President Carter and now we are stuck with that loud sucker.

Here is some history of positive displacement blowers. They derive from the same principles. roystongroup.com/history.htm

The Roots brothers discovered the principle of the positive displacement blower in 1854. This PD blower principle is still the guiding technology behind the rotary blowers manufactured today.
