I believe we could do with more consolidation of school districts. Every time you set up a district, you are rebuilidng the exact same overhead you have ten miles down the road.
I realize WHY everyone wants their own district, but I am not sure it is cost effective any longer.
Exactly correct! Some of these "rual " schools are no longer cost effective, but trying to get them to consolidate is beyond common sense. It is no longer cost effective, especially to the folks who live out here being taxed to death in order to maintain them. The local "rual" school graduated less than 30 children last year. The entire school, K through 12, has less than 300 children. My senior class (another city years ago), graduated 385, more than the entire population of the local school! I've heard all the excuses. "We'll lose our small town feeling, we must save our annual events, bake sales, BBQ's, etc." The best one was, "We'll have to pay taxes anyway, so why not here".
Consolidate. You won't lose that "small town feeling", the children will get a good education, the schools will be even nicer and much more cost effective to maintain, and best of all maybe we'll not be taxed to death to maintain so many admin. personnel and can pay teachers more.
