Hopkins County Military Coalition Honor Guard raises an American flag on a new flag pole at Wesley House Thursday afternoon. After several Wesley House residents commented about wanting a flag pole to honor verterans, the retirement center bought a flag pole and asked the honor guard to perform a flag ceremony. The event featured a trumpet solo of “Taps.”

Lights of Life Campaign and Gala chair Brian and Leesa  Toliver (second row center) announce that this year’s gala has sold out once again. The theme for the January 2015 event is “The Great Gatsby,” which all ticket holders are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. The committee has raised $175,000 in sponsorships out of the $250,000 goal. The funds will be used to purchase three additional telemedicine machines, flex coils for a MRI machine and a new vehicle for EMS at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Any extra funds will be given to the hospital legacy endowment fund.

Parents of Sulphur Springs’ youngest students won’t have to worry about coming up with money to cover their pupil’s meal costs this year. Early Childhood Learning Center will offer both breakfast and lunch at no charge to all students, but parents are asked to fill out the family size and income form for recording purposes.

    As trustees got ready to approve the 2014-15 tax rate and budget for Sulphur Springs Independent School District this week, they were asked to amend the current budget by $1,894,343 due to expenses over the original 2013-14 projected budget.

Two men were arrested Tuesday after a law enforcement officer saw their vehicle actively involved in a drive-by shooting on Bill Bradford Road, according to police and special crimes unit reports.
