COMMERCE — Dr. Jeff Kopachena, professor in Biological and Environmental Sciences, was awarded $92,605 by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, for Stage two of his project, “Ecological role of Red Imported Fire Ants (Solenopsis invicta) and their influence on Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus) egg and larval survival in northeast Texas.”

Sulphur Springs High School Theatre student’s play advanced from district to the bi-district One-Act Play competition held March 21 at Mesquite Poteet High School. Four students also received honors for their contributions to the school’s production of Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, “The Skin of Our Teeth.”

AUSTIN — The Texas economy expanded in February with the addition of 6,700 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 4.9 percent in February, up slightly from 4.8 percent in January.
