Como-Pickton High School this week announced Mekenzie ‘Kenzie” Ingalls as this year’s senior class valedictorian and Rayla Petty as salutatorian. Ingalls is the daughter of Jamie Ingalls and Mike Ingalls and granddaughter of Charlie Harris. Petty is the daughter of Tiffany Bozeman and Ryan Bozeman, and granddaughter of Raymond Petty.

The News-Telegram will not publish a newspaper on Monday, May 30, so employees can spend Memorial Day with family.

The News-Telegram will resume its normal publishing schedule on Tuesday, May 31.

The Echo Publishing office will also be closed on Monday and will re-open at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The Hopkins County Grand Jury signed 84 indictments this week. The charges ranged fromsexual assault of a child, abandoning or endangering a child and assault of a public servant to theft of livestock, theft of firearms, burglary, drunk driving, fraud and controlled substance offenses. Some indictments implicate more than one person as having been involved in the same offense. In other instances, individuals were named in more than one indictment.

The Yantis High School Spelling and Vocabulary Team came in third overall in Conference 1A at the Texas Academic UIL Meet this week. All of the YHS spellers also finished in the top 4 percent of all spellers in the state.

Empty gas tank leads to arrest of Winnsboro man PDF Print E-mail

A 40-year-old Winnsboro man, Damon Wayne Barker, is being held in Hopkins County jail on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, after he was arrested in the early morning hours on County Road 3358 at FM 900.
