As part of President Barack Obama’s ongoing efforts to assist communities negatively impacted by changes in the coal industry and power sector, awards totaling $38.8 million were announced for 29 economic and workforce development projects that are working to build a stronger economic future for their communities, businesses and workers. According to plan, almost $560,000 will be coming to Hopkins and Titus counties.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Ranger Toney Hurley said 48-year-old Lindy Wayne Shipley turned himself in to deputies at Hopkins County Law Enforcement Center Tuesday morning on a felony warrant alleging theft of as much as $250,000 worth of cattle.

Hopkins County Commissioners Court gave unanimous approval Monday morning to an emergency declaration amending the road and bridge budget by adding $200,000 from surplus funds for road repairs.
