The top seniors and eighth grade students were honored during Yantis School Awards Night. Additional awards for A and AB Honor Rolls, Perfect Attendance, UIL and class achievements were presented to Yantis junior high and high school students. Honor graduates were recognized and more than $87,000 in scholarship were announced for seniors.

Saltillo High School seniors this week were awarded nearly $140,000 in scholarships at the annual awards banquet. Students were also recognized for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, academic and athletic UIL achievements; as well as being on the A and AB Honor rolls. Four school employees were recognized for their years of service to the district.

Homer Brantley was in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. On Oct. 3, 1950, his infantry company broke out in a deadly firefight which could have lead to mass casualties, if it was not for Brantley’s quick thinking.

For the first time in Hopkins County history, the arts community will assemble to create a Broadway musical production of epic proportions. “A Christmas Carol: The Musical” will embrace the talents of the Northeast Texas Choral Society, Main Street Theatre’s Community Players, the Sulphur Springs Symphony League and the Bright Star League of Cultural Arts.
