Action this week by Hopkins County Commissioners Court represents another step toward the start of a project that will straighten and renovate State Highway 11 west of Sulphur Springs.
    Commissioners authorized payment for the purchase of property for the highway construction project, according to County Judge Robert Newsom. The payment to Texas Department of Transportation will reimburse the state for the acquisition of the right-of-way.

A Texas Department of Transportation spokesman said a portion of State Highway 19, also known as Hillcrest Drive, will be closed Saturday and Sunday, July 9-10, for repairs of the Kansas City Southern railroad crossing just north of Main Street.

With another dozen vehicle burglaries reported Thursday night and early Friday morning, Sulphur Springs police expressed frustration at the growing number and asked everyone once again to be sure their cars and trucks are locked and to be aware of what is going on around their neighborhoods.
