The family and friends of a young man stricken with a hateful disease rally to help in any way they can. It’s amazing how many fundraisers the good people of Hopkins County support each year. There’s something good here . . .
While other health care institutions scramble to stay afloat, our local hospital celebrates its long-time volunteers as part of a sold-out gala, giving them the “red carpet” treatment they so richly deserve.

Last week, officials in Mid-Michigan said a 93-year-old man who owed more than $1,000 in unpaid electric bills froze to death inside his home – where the municipal power company had restricted his use of electricity. This is not good news, by any means, but I’m printing it because we need to look out for our neighbors, especially in times of extreme temperatures. My neighbors are so good to look after our house while Mr. Mathews and I are gone during the day. At night, we try to make sure there’s a light on in their houses or know if they’re gone on a trip. Let’s remember to look after one another. It’s the right thing to do.
