I get to have three Christmas seasons at my desk. One, of course, is the traditional one on Dec. 25.
The other two come when Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill releases their Spring and Fall catalogues, and I get to choose what titles I'd like to read.
Sally dropped a large envelope on my desk this morning, full of six books, three by Julia Alvarez.
In addition to the Alvarez novels, they sent copies of "Peep Show," by Joshua Braff, "The Ghost of Milagro Creek," by Melanie Sumner, and "The Boy Who Loved Tornadoes," by Randi Davenport. I've never read anything by any of these writers, but I'm looking forward to hearing their stories.
