One of my favorite Texas singers/songwriters is releasing a new CD tomorrow. How did I miss that press release?
Lovett does his own tunes and covers writers Eric Taylor, Don Sanders,Tommy Elskes, David Ball, Vince Bell, Robert Earl Keen and the legendary Townes Van Zandt.
You can get the MP3 version of the CD today and tomorrow only for $3.99 from amazon.com. I couldn't wait for the CD, so I went to amazon.com downloaded the digital files.
Last time I saw Lovett was at the Big State Festival in Bryan/College Station. He had just released "Lyle Lovett and his Large Band." Not a bad cut on the whole album.Am on my second pass through. There are some really great cuts, but the majority is not "listening lite." Not that the songs are all slow and sad, but there are some real tough stories here.
Lovett really has a way with irony ... "Farmer Brown" and "Keep It In Your Pantry" don't have anything to do with a home place or canned goods. :-)
Of course, his cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Loretta" is already one of my favorites. Townes' lyrics + Lyle's style = Near perfection.
Watch for my review ... I love me some Lyle Lovett. Yes, I do.
