I can’t believe how much disdain I have toward myself for finally giving in and liking this song. I mean, it’s not like I haven’t liked almost everything Miley Cyrus has done before (you think I’m joking), but this song I couldn’t swallow the first few times I heard it.
Something about using the term “tummy” and pretending that she listens to Jay-Z really turned me off. That and the fact that though the song unifies the U.S.A., it can’t also leave the country’s borders and make waves elsewhere. Of course, “it’s a party all over the world” doesn’t really track well with the melody. (And you couldn’t have Miley singing in front of a giant American flag in the video, either.)

There is, however, the brilliant production by Dr. Luke and a catchy, catchy melody that made me turn around. Like any good pop song, this is infectious.
