Just in case ya'll missed it, Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band played at the Pizza Hut Park in Frisco on Saturday. About 27,000 parrotheads (Jimmy's fans) came from all over the country to celebrate life with the world's richest beach bum.
I've been following him since the early 1970s ... you'd think he would lose his edge, but he seems to have gotten even better with age. He opened with "Lage Nom Ai" from the 1995 album "Barometer Soup." It has a great tropical feel and was the perfect way to set the mood.
This year's set list included some old chestnuts like "My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink and I Don't Love Jesus," and "I Heard I Was in Town," which are two of my favorites. He even included "Livingston Saturday Night," a 1975 hit.
I was part of BuffettNews' Frisco Feeding Frenzy III ... in addition to getting together every year for a two-day long tailgate party, we raise money for charities (National Breast Cancer Foundation, The Leukemia and Lymphona Society, Why Me? and Scottish Rite Hospital). Although we don't have a final total, last count was around $17,000, which is pretty impressive, considering the economy.
Look for a complete review of the show and the tailgate activity in an upcoming edition of the News-Telegram.
