Scaggs is best remembered for his hits like 1976's LOWDOWN and LOVE (Look What You've Done to Me), from the soundtrack of "Urban Cowboy."
SPEAK LOW is loaded with mellow arrangements of classics like SKYLARK, DO NOTHING 'TIL YOU HEAR FROM ME and I'LL REMEMBER APRIL. He does a fabulous take on John Coltrane's INVITATION, adding some great Lionel Hampton-like vibe licks. The cut also has a Martin Denny, exotic, tiki-bar-on-a-beach feel.
I've been listening to the CD for a few days now ... it's so laid back, it almost makes me forget about all the bad news.
