Alexander McCall Smith, author of the international best selling "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" has just released the 11th book in the series. This is good news because no one does "gentle fiction" like Smith.
The book arrived on my desk yesterday just in time to pull me out of a reading slump. Elizabeth Berg's latest, "The Last Time I Saw You," and Chris Bohjalian's "Secrets of Eden" left me truly disappointed.
It doesn't take long to fall under the spell of detective Precious Ramotswe, her tightly wound secretary Grace Makutsi and Precious' kind and generous husband, Mr. J L B Matkeoni. When the HBO mini-series put faces and voices with the characters I've come to love, it added another layer to my reading pleasure.
The cases taken on by the agency are secondary to the stories of Botwsana and its lovely citizens. Can't wait to see how this one unfolds.
