This Dallas Mavericks team is not the team of old, which is good, because the team of old was OLD.In his first season as head coach, Rick Carlisle is giving the young guys a chance -- something that Avery Johnson never did. The last two seasons, the Mavericks were exposed as an old, unathletic team that couldn't run or jump. Carlisle is allowing the young players, like JJ Barea, Gerald Green, James Singleton, Shawne Williams and Antoine Wright, a chance to show what they can do.
Carlisle isn't letting them run wild, and in fact will bench players down for entire games if they're not "getting it." But, at least he is giving them a chance, and the Mavericks will be better off for it because they weren't going anywhere with Eddie Jones, Trenton Hassell, Malik Allen, Juwan Howard, Austin Croshere and some of the other washed up veterans who have paraded through here the last two years.
