Yeah, coaches have to coach and players have to play. But, there is one person to blame for the pathetic state of the Dallas Cowboys, and his name is Jerry Jones.
Want to blame Wade Phillips? Go ahead -- he deserves it. But don't forget who hired Phillips as head coach when none of the other teams in the NFL would. In fact, blame the entire coaching staff on Jones.
Want to blame Jason Garrett? Yeah, I do too. But it was Jones who gave Garrett his job and has stuck by him despite a mountain of evidence that Garrett is in so far over his head that he needs scuba gear.
Where do you point the finger for the Cowboys being No. 1 in the league in penalties? Jones, because he hired a head coach who has no inclination to discipline any player or hold anyone accountable.
Who do you blame when Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Roy Williams drop passes? Jones, because he's the one who has fostered an attitude that a couple of mistakes are OK, there's no need to be upset because everyone makes mistakes. Everything will be all right, Jones always mistakenly says.
Blame Jones for putting together a roster that includes: a backup tackle named Alex Barron, that single-handedly lost a game this year; the most feeble safety tandem in the league; a "can't play" backup quarterback; an offensive line with no depth; an obvious over-the-hill Keith Brooking playing 90 percent of the snaps; a deterioating special teams unit; and a placekicker that is less dependable that a $5 spare tire.
It's all on Jerry Jones. A 1-5 record. Laughingstock of the NFL. Money loser.
Enjoy it Jerry. You deserve all you are getting.
