This is my official Rangers finally win a playoff series blog.
The blog that will now clear up that one black mark on their record. Texas is not longer the only Major League Baseball team which hasn't won a postseason series.
They beat the Rays, they took the series over Tampa Bay. So write that down all you national doubters. After being stuck off in afternoon games in the middle of the week in a dome which is seldom filled, away from the spotlight and prime time, they did it anyway. These Rangers are a different breed of cat. They don't mind anything you throw at them. Playing in the elimination game on the road- they don't care.
Of course, having Cliff Lee doesn't hurt. Lee is a master on the mound and since he was not walking anybody and giving up very few hits, the Tampa running game was not a factor.
But the Rangers could run. Between Elvis circling the bases and Bad Vlad taking home while the Rays slept, it was all the classic Rangers. Even Ian Kinsler's home run was a shot at the folks who have counted them out.
For 39 years the Rangers lost more than they won. I know, I have the scars to prove it and survived the prairie winds and triple digit heat.
I must admit I did a little dance as the Rangers celebrated the 5-1 win over Tampa. I hollered and flipped the porch light on and off a few times. I said a few phrases directed toward the next foe on the horizon - that evil empire of New York Yankees.
So, for all the times I cussed Kenny Rogers, for the times I wondered what Mickey Rivers was talking about, for all the wild pitches by Bobby Witt, this makes all that suffering worth it.
Because I am a fan. A Texas Ranger fan and I am proudly wearing Ranger red today.
The Rangers have to take on the World Champs next, don't bet against them. This group is really on a roll.
For all the fans who have had their suffering ended - I salute you. Perhaps this season makes the wait worthwhile.
Claw and antlers all the way.
