OK, now I can exhale.
After worrying, fretting and pacing. I can relax, the Rangers are the AL West champions. I had to see it officially.
One of my many jobs here at the paper, is formating the standings. It was my great pleasure today to see the little X which made me smile.
The little x, next to Texas, means the Rangers have won the American League West and boy does that feel good. After 11 long years. The Rangers are back in the playoffs, I guess my patience has paid off.
They're in because of pitching, no doubt. Yes, they have big sluggers, fast baserunners, steady defense. But they are in the playoffs because of pitching. They have the best bullpen ERA in the American League. I never thought it would happen. I've watched the Rangers try to win 10-8 every night, but now they can win a 2-1 game with pitching.
On a sunny afternoon in Oakland, the Rangers won and it was sweet. I hoped it could have been in Arlington, but we still have time for all that fun.
Now the playoffs are here and (que the Darth Vader music) the evil Yankees could be looming on the horizon. I say bring them on, if you are going to get to the World Series and win it all, you have to beat all the good teams anyway.
Tampa Bay, in my opinion, is a better team that NY and they are younger. But the Yankees are after all- the Yankees. The best time money can buy, with a huge stadium and the Yankee mistique and all that.
A bunch of young guys in Arlington don't care. To quote the M*A*S*H guru Radar O'Reilly, it helps not to be too bright.
The Playoffs- the Rangers will figure them out as they go along. By the time they figure out they should be scared to be on the big stage, they could win it all.
