Last season for American Idol? Why not

User Rating: / 10

This could be the last season for American Idol, simply because there doesn't seem to be enough qualified judges to get the once "can't miss" program back to relevancy.

Since Simon Cowell left three seasons ago, the judges' chairs have been more like musical chairs with twist -- no one wants to sit in them.

Girls Outshine Guys on Idol

The guys of American Idol had better be glad that five of them are guaranteed to go through until the next round, because otherwise it would a mostly-girls club.

The 12 remaining girls on Idol performed in Hollywood for the first time last night, and they thoroughly outperformed the 13 guys the previous night. According to the rules this year, five girls and five guys will advance along with three others whom the judges pick.

Simon, American Idol Needs You

Where is Simon when you need him most?

And American Idol certainly needed the critically-eared Brit last night when the top 13 guys took the Hollywood stage for the first time.

It was overall an unimpressive lot, though it was collectively their first time on live television. However, the judging trio of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler gave all 13 performers six thumbs up.

I digress, though. Back to the singing.

Idol has come down to Haves and Have Nots

American Idol’s Top 12 looks to be a division of Haves and Have Nots. What do the contestants have or don’t have? You know, the look, the voice and the intangible stage presence that makes watching them -- and listening to them -- something you want to do.

Some of the contestants were hurt last night by bad song choices as they had to pick songs released in the year of their birth. Let me tell you, 1989 and 1990 were bad years for songs.

That being said, after last night’s performance, I have categorized the singers in the Haves and the Have Nots.
